HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Our school was founded in 1993 by the late Bishop Dionysios and the current Metropolite Varnavas’ tireless efforts.

The school opened for the first time in 1994 as a four class Ecclesiastic Lyceum and later as a General Ecclesiastic Lyceum. The Ecclesiastic Junior High school was founded in 2007.

THE IDENTITY OF OUR SCHOOL

The Ecclesiastic High School and the Eccesiastic Lyceum of Neapoli are state schools. They belong to the Ecclesiastic Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Athletics. The diplomas issued by the school are equivalent to those of the state High schools and Lyceums:

a) High School Diploma

b) Lyceum Diploma

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTΙVES

• Integrated knowledge and proper education through an upgraded curriculum.

• Development of critical thought within the new European and global reality, with special interest in environmental and health issues.
• The establishment of a friendly atmosphere through the sacramental life of the Church. The promotion of clergymen and secular executives of our Church

ACTIVITIES

• Constant involvement in educational programs for the environment, for health, for culture (The symbolism of plants in Orthodoxy, The catacombs, Nutritional habits and fasting, Byzantine Icons, The Holy Water)
• Educational excursions to pilgrimage destinations: churches and monasteries in Greece and abroad (Ecumenical Patriarchate –Constantinople, Jerusalem, Cyprus ).Visits to archeological sights, and museums,(Byzantine Museum of Athens and Thessaloniki, New Acropolis Museum , Museum for the Macedonian Struggle, Society for Macedonian Studies, Science Center and Technology Museum "NOESIS"e.t.c)
• Educational trip in Athens for the meeting of the Ecclesiastical Schools that took place in Rizarios School.
• In Halkida with our Prelate Varnavas
• Excursion to Veroia (Step of of the Apostle Paul with father Hrisostomos), Dovra Monastery, Naousa, Aristotle’s School, St.Nicolas park.
• Participation to the annual meeting of the Greek Ecclesiastical Schools where students who excel academically are rewarded with financial prizes. The event takes place in Rizarios School every year, during the week of Hieratic Vocation under the auspices of The Blessed Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos and the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.
• Educational excursion to Olympiotissa Monastery and to the Environmental Education Center in Elassona.
• Distinguished speakers are invited to our School such as The Blessed Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos, The Metropolite of Siatista Pavlos, Father Superior of Sagmata Monastery in Thiva Nektarios Antonopoulos, Head Priest f.Georgios Metallinos peer Professor of Theology at the University of Athens K.Nigdelis Philologist and Folklorist, M.Nihoritis Pofessor of the Balkan Studies Department at the West Macedonia University and others.
• Attendance of interesting plays.

CURRICULUM

In the Ecclesiastical School apart from the required courses of the timetable and because of the particular orientation of our school, further theological lessons are taught in each class, Byzantine music and Byzantine Iconography as well.

SCHOOL EQUIPMENT

The School has airy, bright and spacious classrooms and modern teaching   methods are used by qualified teachers.
There is also a Modern computer lab, a lending library with a number of 8000 titles of books and a fully equipped science laboratory.

THE BOARDING HOUSE

The Boarding house was founded for students who come from remote areas and from abroad and it functions under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Neapoli.

The Boarding house is located at the Church of St. Athanasios of Palaiokastro.
It has a well-organized kitchen and a restaurant, washing machines for personal use, a study room and an entertainment lounge.

REGISTRATION CRITERIA

In the Ecclesiastic School of Neapoli are accepted :

• primary school graduates
• graduates of all Ecclesiastic Junior High Schools
• graduates of any other school of the region of Thessaloniki and Greece
• students from the neighboring Balkan countries

REGISTRATION  DOCUMENTS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

• Guardian application
• Student’s application (if an adult)
• Original degree certificate, officially sealed for its authenticity with the Hague Apostille for the EU countries or sealed by any other diplomatic authority of the student’s country
• Official translation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from a certified translator or by lawyer
• Solemn declaration by the guardian that, if the student is underage, he can attend up to two lower classes
• If the student has knowledge of the Greek language ( at any level), this should be certified by an official Greek language institution
• Regional Metropolite’s recommendation letter
• For students who come from non-EU countries, a residence permit is needed.

Basic criterion for the students is their love for our Church, their moral principles but especially their will for progress, participation and cooperation.
